Wobzip.org: Extract zip files online - Review

Unknown | Friday, March 16, 2012 | 0 comments
Downloading a zip file? Worried what's inside? Is it containing malicious files or key logging applications? Or if it contains any self executable programs which will silently install on my PC as soon as I extract the zip file? Or downloaded a zip file but don't have any extraction programs installed. Well here wobzip.org is your solution. Everyone knows about winrar, winzip, 7zip which are the most popular compressed file extracting programs, but the doubts I stated above are very straight forward. Cause none of the extracting application comes with a powerful built in virus scanner. So why take risk ? Just try Wobzip.org, an online file unzipping service. The website wobzip.org is very popular because of its

  1. Easy to use interface
  2. Clean design (No annoying pop ups or ads)
  3. Powerful server
  4. Quick response

I personally use wobzip service for extracting files which I think may harm my computer or files I get from unknown or unverified resources. Or sometimes I need some particular files from a zipped file and don't want to download any extra data unnecessarily. This website always works like a charm & never disappoints me.

As you can see the home page of the website is too much easy to use & neatly designed. Just one Adsense ad banner & no irritating pop ups. As Wobzip says

You have a folder of funny images to send to your friends. The image files are large, so you compress them into, for example, a .rar file thinking, that you can share your files with your friends. However, your friends say that they do not know how to open the file. So you direct them to WOBZIP.
WOBZIP is a free online tool that allows you to uncompress your files online.
Web-based means hassle-free
Now you can unzip your files in school, at work or anywhere as long as you have access to the Internet. No longer will you be limited by the inability to install programs onto admin-protected computers.
Uncompressing online means safer
We scan your compressed files using an anti-virus scanner so any infected files will be removed before you download them onto your computer.
Uncompressing online means the freedom to choose
Our aim is to allow users to uncompress as many compressed file formats as possible. This means that you can compress your files using the compression format of your choice and send it to your friends. Tell them about WOBZIP and uncompress on the fly.
Start uncompressing now with WOBZIP!

As they say, they does it so. They offer a wide range of file formats to extract, like 7z, XZ, BZIP2, GZ, TAR, ZIP,WIM, ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, CramFS, DEB, DMG, FAT, HFS, ISO, LZH, LZMA, MBR, MSI, NSIS, NTFS, RAR, RPM, SquashFS, UDF, VHD, WIM, XAR.
           So how to use them? Just follow the instructions;
# First,

Get the DIRECT LINK of the compressed file to be compressed. Direct link means http://www.domainnameofhost.com/zipfilename.zip. Those who are downloading from any cyberlocker service such as Mediafire you have to use the direct link of the file and not the Mediafire download link. Means if you enter http://www.mediafire.com/ada45dsd5ad4 as the link in the URL box it will just show you an error. To get direct link from Mediafire just right click on the download button of Mediafire download page, copy link address & paste it on the URl box of Wobzip. It will work. Only & if only your zip file has any password to unzip it then enter the password in the password box else, leave it blank. After you are done with these, click the uncompress button. Now the zip file will be uploaded to Wobzip's server for extraction purpose. Note one thing the file is being uploaded to Wobzip's server, not in your PC. So you are safe from any infection that might have been caused by downloading it in your PC. Here is the screenshot of their upload process

# Second, the upload & unzipping duration will depend will take time as the size of your zip file. After the upload & decompressing you will be taken to this page on where you can see the files extracted.
Now you can download the files of your choice & be safe. Your decompressed files will be kept for 3days in their server & you will be given a link to see the files extracted which will work for that 3days only. Wobzip allows a file size limit of 200MB which is pretty good.
I personally liked their service as blazing fast, good interface & safe. They run donations & earnings from Google Adsense. So be a kind hearted & please donate if you liked their service. [You will  :)]
Thanks : www.bengalivideo.net [for using their files for demonstration purpose]

Mediafire Express Review

Unknown | Wednesday, March 07, 2012 | 0 comments
Mediafire express is the new file uploading tool developed by Mediafire (Free cloud storage service). This tool is made only for uploading files into you Mediafire cloud account. With this tool you don't have to open the mediafire page in your browser for uploading. It is a desktop application and you will be able to upload without opening your browser. Means less fears of browser crash during upload. Here is the documentation video form the mediafire team

As Mediafire describes, with this Mediafire express tool (still in beta version) you will enjoy the benefits like,

MediaFire Express can upload files from our computer to your MediaFire account without requiring you to open your browser.

  • New users can create a MediaFire account during installation.
  • MediaFire Express users can switch between MediaFire accounts.
  • Users can select an upload destination folder from within their “My Files” folder hierarchy.
  • Users can upload a file via a right click menu on File Explorer’s (on Windows) or Finder (on the Mac).
  • Users can upload a file by dragging and dropping it on the MediaFire Express’ Drop Zone.
  • MediaFire Express avoids contributing to desktop clutter by hiding its windows when it is idle.
  • Progress bars make it easy for users to monitor file upload progress.
  • Users can invoke the MediaFire Expresses Screenshot tool from (1) the keyboard, (2) a button located on the MediaFire Express’ Drop-Zone, or via a systray menu.
  • Quickly open your “My Files” page with a click of a button.
  • MediaFire Express dynamically throttles-back upload rates as necessary so as to avoid reducing Quality of Service on slow DSL links.
  • MediaFire Express’ Screenshot Tool captures images of (1) the entire desktop, (2) an application’s window, or (3) a user defined area and then (1) uploads the screenshot to your MediaFire account for sharing, (2) saves the screenshot to disk or (3) sends the image to the printer for a hard copy.
  • Most salient feature I like that is uploaders' can pause their upload whenever they want to & start from the point at where he paused it. even it auto pauses when your PC goes to sleep and start again(manually) when you power it up. Previously in browser upload or any other 3rd party uploading tool was not giving this feature. It is a great plus point for Mediafire Express.
There are several more options like SSL uploads, Change in number of concurrent uploads, File upload preferences & more. These are the pro's of the Mediafire Express tool. now lets talk about the cons of the tool.
The tool does not offer to choose folder where you want to upload files. Each time to go to upload you have to change the default folder which is annoying I think. :-/
The tool doesn't show the uploading speed as the browser uploader used to show.
The tool gives links as a bulk. Like this
http://www.mediafire.com/?sa65s4as51a,d68sad5,s65ds68dsd,8684u65ghj,89hh51h0 etc..
in ascending order according to their sizes. Giving links for individual files would be great update.
Well overall I liked the tool and hope some updates for the above con's I have stated above. A great tool to use & you must try it.

Mediafire Pro Account Review

Unknown | Wednesday, February 15, 2012 | 0 comments
Mediafire (#) is currently the leading free cloud storage website with a lots of power packed feature & easy to use user interface. Launching in October 2006 the Mediafire team has proved them the best & been awarded many times. I personally started using Mediafire from end 2008 just to use it as a backup some of my files & attaching large size files in mails. After using a some time I liked there service & used them to store most of my files & shared with my friends. The free account of Mediafire gives so many features than any other cloud storage service. After using it for a long time as a free user I decided & upgraded to their Pro account paying $9 as one month's charge. You can find the features & comparison of their different account types from here.
The most important extra features I got are,

  • My file size limit increased to 4GB(200MB for free users)
  • My uploaded files will be kept forever[as long as they exists ;-)] in their servers as long as I continue to be their PRO customer.
  • 100GB of Direct linking of the Mediafire links. Means while free users have to visit each time they want to download files form Mediafire I don't have to. Up to 100 GB I will be able to download files from Mediafire links bypassing their download page.
  • 25 Custom URL's (subject to availability) instead of only 1 for free users. E.G. http://www.mediafire.com/xxyour-custom-linkxx
  • I can replace the Mediafire logo from my files page and use any one I like to use.

And also there will be Detailed download statistics, embeddable file dropbox, priority email support and many more. But one must know some of the hidden conditions (which they did not clearly stated in their offer page), below are the details.

  • All your files will be direct linked automatically: Suppose you are an uploader and offer your files for free download over many websites or in your personal websites (Most of the Mediafire users do this :-P). All the links you share will be automatically Direct Linked. Means any one with your file link will be able to download files directly bypassing Mediafire's download page. And this bandwidth will be deducted from your 100GB allotted bandwidth. There is no way to disable this feature however you can disable direct linking feature from your own use. Means you can opt to use the traditional downloading procedure of Mediafire whereas you can't stop your users from direct linking. More you share your links & more your files be downloaded by other anonymous users, more your bandwidth decreases. Whereas the other file hosting sites you can control which file to be hotlinked and which file to not.
  • Mediafire says as a Pro user I will not see any advertisements while visiting Mediafire pages for download. But every time I visited any Mediafire download page I saw advertisements. This is weird!
  • I have a big confusion, does Mediafire count each download or each download page visit. Cause for test purpose I once just visited the download page & looked back at my stats, what I found that the count is showing one download. How is this possible? I did not downloaded the file so why did it showed as 1download?
  • While purchasing a Mediafire Pro account every on will get a one month extra period to extend his subscription. Means if you purchase an one month Mediafire Pro account on 1st January your Pro account will be valid till 28th February. They will give one month extra to renew your subscription.
  • If your 100GB direct link bandwidth finishes and you want more then you can purchase additional roll over bandwidth. There are 3 plans for this, 100GB bandwidth for $9, 250GB bandwidth for $19, 1000GB bandwidth for $69. If anytime your bandwidth remains for any month the extra bandwidth will be added next month automatically.
If anyone uses Mediafire daily basis then he/she might not use Mediafire Pro account cause no extra special benefits are there. But if you are a power user and use Mediafire for making your brand value by direct linking & detailed statistics then you must go on and try for one. I personally liked their service but if the bandwidth option & advertisement option are changed for good then it would have been better.
Well, I shared my personal thoughts & I am not blaming or praising Mediafire, all of my thoughts are neutral. if any one have any different views then please share here by commenting below.
